Saturday, March 4, 2017 – House and Senate Meet in Full Floor Session today – Some Committee Meetings

As they enter their last two weeks of the sixty day legislative session house and senate members are scurrying to get a budget passed along with other important legislation affecting the lives of most New Mexicans.

While the House passed a minimum wage bill late Friday evening, it was missing an annual adjustment clause tied to the consumer price index (CPI) which was disappointing, especially in light of the so-called compromise on the hourly amount was dropped under $10.00.

Hopefully today they will get around to a debate and passage of the Early Childhood Education Amendment – House members need a push on this, especially a few who seem to be forming some opposition from a more conservative bent among Dems – Representatives Debbie Rodella, Carl Trujillo and Patricio Ruiloba (two chairs, and a vice chair). They collectively joined Republicans in defeating an important Charter School related bill a few nights ago.

It appears this same group of three could be a problem for other important progressive and working family issues.

The Senate meets at 11:00 AM and the House at 1:30 PM today.
