The following press release was received by The Candle from Crystal Jeffries of the Pepperell Watchers Community Group.

“Residents and business owners from Pepperell and neighboring towns, in opposition to proposed dumping of construction debris and toxic dirt from Boston and neighboring states, are encouraged to wear RED in solidarity at the Select Board Meeting on Monday, August 20, at 7:15pm at the Pepperell Senior Center.

“Too many of these statewide projects have become disasters for communities, resulting in millions of dollars to “clean up” the irreversible damages. A dumping operation like this will bring an estimated 55,000 tractor-trailer loads through Pepperell, Dunstable, Groton, Littleton, Tyngsboro and Hollis, NH, over a reported 7 to 9 years.

“What we get in return is noise, water, light and air pollution along with displaced wildlife, road degradation and decreased property values all on the backs of taxpayers.

“We, the taxpayers, will foot the bill for this endeavor and blatant infringement on our health, our water and our livelihood in our beautiful rural, agricultural communities.

“Representatives from the entity planning to dump on land located at 161 Nashua Rd, Pepperell, will give their presentation to the Pepperell Select Board on Monday, August 20, 2018, at 7:15pm. This is a PUBLIC, open meeting for all residents in Pepperell and neighboring towns to attend, ask questions and become informed about the proposed dumping ground near the Nashua River, neighborhoods, private wells and aquifers.”

“Wear Red and Attend.”

Thank you,

Pepperell Watchers Community Group
