House Republican Caucus Welcomes Representative Mark Murphy to the Roundhouse

Santa Fe, NM- Today, the New Mexico House Republican Caucus welcomed Representative Mark Murphy to the Roundhouse following his appointment by the Chaves County Board of Commissioners.

“The House Republican Caucus is glad to welcome Mark Murphy, the newly appointed Representative from District 59, Chaves County. Representative Murphy’s experience as a businessman and job creator, and his long-standing leadership in New Mexico’s oil and gas industry is an invaluable addition to our Caucus,” said Leader Gail Armstrong (R-Magdelena).

“I am honored to have been appointed to represent Roswell and Chaves County and to help my community recover from the devastating floods that brought so much destruction this past fall. As I head to Santa Fe next week, I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House Republican Caucus to support the agriculture. energy, and mining industries that provide thousands of jobs to southeastern New Mexico and send billions in revenue to the state, to pass common sense crime legislation that will make our communities safer, and to fix our broken school system,” said Representative Mark Murphy (R-Roswell).

Representative Murphy’s appointment follows the resignation of Representative Jared Hembree after encountering unforeseen and urgent health circumstances.


According to testimony offered by Mark Murphy before the United States House of Representatives Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources on March 9, 2021, Murphy is the President of Strata Production Company, a small, independent, family-owned oil and gas producer which is headquartered in Roswell, New Mexico.

Strata Production Company operates with about 40 leases on land comprising of roughly 20,000 acres of land in New Mexico, many of those acres owned by the federal government.

According to a biographical posting of the United States House of Representatives regarding an appearance of Mr. Murphy before a House Subcommittee:

“… Mr. Murphy has over 40 years of oil and gas company operational, geological, and management experience. In addition to his business activities Mr. Murphy is a Director and former President of the Independent Petroleum Association of New Mexico, former Treasurer of the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association, former Chairman of Independent Petroleum Association of America’s Land and Royalty Committee, and currently is a member of the National Petroleum Council. He is a former Chairman for the energy industry research consortium Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America, and serves as an industry advisor to New Mexico Tech’s Petroleum Recovery Research Center.

“Mr. Murphy holds a Bachelors Degree from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.”
